GOODBYE ROE!
After nearly 50 years, yet another surprise happens. Our five courageous Supreme Court justices, who refused to be intimidated by threats and violence, have finally struck down Roe v. Wade Case.
Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States generally protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose an abortion.
Now the story is not about the functioning of supreme court. The sword that had long been hanging over American women’s heads finally fell. The supreme court overturned the good old Roe v Wade, and the nationwide right to an abortion was toppled down. This verdict has long been expected, and long dreaded, by those in the reproductive rights movement . The future will be consumed with finger pointing, shoutings and recriminations. But the story is not about deciding who was right and who was wrong.
Roe would have been created on a lie that somewhere hidden in the pages of our Constitution. But there existed a right to destroy children in the womb. The ruling in 1973 shocked the nation and divided the country. It was an abrupt exercise in raw judicial power. History May eventually judge it as one of the court’s most shameful moments.
But now, the court has corrected its mistake. Roe is dead, and, as a result, millions of innocent babies will have a chance to live and be welcomed into the world and protected by the promises of our Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
The fight was so tough to save innocent babies and end the exploitation of women by the abortion industry has caused us to celebrate and thank God. This decision is a beautiful day for our country.
But the battle is not over. The court has taken the issue of abortion and returned it to the states. The people of each state will now have the opportunity to debate and try to persuade their fellow citizens. Then they can reach their conclusions on the fundamental issue of the sanctity of life and pass laws that reflect that consensus. We will continue to be in that battle until justice prevails.
Have a look to what our leaders said, on hearing about the overturning Roe vs.Wade decision.
President Biden said “ Today is a very solemn moment for the United States. The Supreme Court expressly took away a Constitutional right from the American people that it had already recognized. They simply took it away. That's never been done to a right that is so important to so many Americansâ€.
“Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues—attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans.Ok day is a very solemn moment for the United States.â€(Barrack Obama)
“ Most Americans believe the decision to have a child is one of the most sacred decisions there is, and that such decisions should remain between patients and their doctors. Today’s Supreme Court opinion will live in infamy as a step backward for women's rights and human rights.†( Hillary Clinton)
The real story is not this order; it is these people’s unfreedom – the pain it will inflict and the joy it will steal. The real story is women, and the real story is the impossible question: how can we ever grieve enough for them?
“Millions of women are now less free than men, in the functioning of their bodies and the paths of their own lives.â€
